DStar provides Medicine Hat with a digital voice and data protocol developed by the Japan Amateur Radio League. The system allows users to communicate globally by using digital repeaters, hotspots or dvaps linked to the internet.  VA6SRG DStar repeater is locate in Dunmore, Alberta just east of Medicine Hat.
This repeater is independantly owned and maintained by a small group of individual amateur radio operators.
